Artesana is a non-profit social enterprise that expands opportunities for women impacted by systemic inequalities in Holyoke, MA, by weaving from reclaimed textiles. They collect donations of discarded tee shirts, strip them, then use traditional hand-operated looms to weave them into interior decor pieces and accessories. They train and employ women in Holyoke with limited work opportunities. As part of their production team, women gain the opportunity to earn a paycheck in a positive work environment dedicated to their growth. Sales of the products also help fund their free community programming for women: fiber arts and financial literacy workshops.
